• Conductor Caren Umbarger leads a trio at the 2010 Open House at ITMS

The eighth season of the Flagler Youth Orchestra’s county-wide strings program is about to begin. All interested students and parents are invited to attend an open house and information session on Wednesday, September 12 at 5:30 pm in the Indian Trails Middle School cafeteria to sign up and learn about the program.

♫     Enrollment is offered free of charge by the Flagler County School District.

♫     Any student living in Flagler County is eligible to enroll: 3rd graders and older.

♫     Students may elect to play violin, viola, cello, or doublebass.

♫     Beginner, intermediate and advanced musicians are all welcome.

♫     Classes are held at Indian Trails Middle School twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays in one hour sessions from 3 pm to 6 pm.

♫     Information on instrument sales and rentals from area music stores will be available at the open house.

♫     First class for first-time students is Wednesday, September 24.

Students will learn about the enriching world of classical, as well as many other genres of music, while receiving string instruction in a player-friendly environment. All members, even beginners, will participate in performance opportunities organized throughout the year.

Our music director and lead conductor, Caren Umbarger, has worked with young musicians for the past 30 years and brings a nurturing and methodical approach to teaching strings. Assisting Umbarger is a dynamic teaching staff with more than 50 years of combined experience.
