• Maggie Snively - Artistic Director

  • Maggie Snively grew up in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and began playing violin at the age of nine.  Many lessons later, she pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree at Lebanon Valley College, studying under Johannes Dietrich. Maggie continued on to the Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville to achieve a Masters degree in violin performance under Lenora-Marya Anop and Suzuki pedagogy with Vera McCoy-Sulentic. She is a Florida certified K-12 educator, following studies at Daytona State College.

Maggie has taught Suzuki method and Traditional violin and viola to students aged three to adult. However, she especially enjoys working with children, and over the last two decades has been grateful to teach at several schools and orchestras including the Community Music Institute at Lebanon Valley College, the St. Louis School of Music, the Flagler Youth Orchestra (2011-2017), and the Ormond Beach Middle School and Hinson Middle Schools. She was thrilled for the opportunity to re-join the FYO as Artistic Director.

Along the way, Maggie has had the chance to perform in Austria, Italy, England, and Scotland, and more recently with local orchestras including the Orlando Philharmonic, Daytona Solisti Chamber Orchestra, the Ocala Symphony, and the Daytona Beach Community Orchestra.  Although she has always considered herself primarily a violinist, Maggie often finds herself playing viola instead – with no complaints.

When Maggie isn’t teaching or playing music, she enjoys spending time with her two children and husband, traveling, relaxing with good books, and various creative pursuits including photography, arts and crafts, and baking elaborate cakes.
